My suspicion (which Dawson certainly bears out as anecdotal evidence) is that the more money you have, the less fucks you give about what other people think. Rich people do all sorts of crazy, fucked up shit, and they never deal with the consequences of any of it. Any of it! Rich people don’t go to jail in this country. Not if they have money. Poor people go to prison. Rich people go to rehab. Behaving yourself is a strictly middle-class value, one of those barriers instituted back when the middle class first came into play.

I am not a humble person. There are times (thankfully past) when this was not always the case, but I can say pretty confidently (see what I did there?) that I am generally pleased with myself. This is because I live in a very safe zone, which, like all simulacra, feels very much like the real world until you start to poke around too much.
